IS PERMANENT RESIDENCE IN URUGUAY SUITABLE FOR TRAVELERS AND CRYPTOCURRENCY HOLDERS?

• If you want to take advantage of Uruguay’s tax benefits, you should live or at least invest here most of the time.
• However, if you do not plan to do this, we recommend obtaining a permanent and tax residence in Paraguay.
• Assume that you, as an individual, give up permanent and tax residency in your home country (officially you should not be there for more than six months of the year) in favor of Uruguayan tax residency. In this case, you are not required to pay any taxes on your foreign income – Uruguay has territorial taxation for individuals.
• Unlike Paraguay, Uruguay distinguishes between permanent and tax/fiscal residency, so obtaining permanent residency does not mean you are automatically tax resident in Uruguay. If you want to have a tax residence here, you must live in Uruguay for at least six months of the year or invest here (approx. USD 380,000 in real estate or USD 1.5 million as an investment of your company in Uruguay).
